Summer 2014

The Old Star - Rio!The Old Star is Rebuilt in Rio for FIFA World Cup 2014

We entered and won a competition organised by McCoy's crisps to provide a local pub for drinkers at the World Cup in Rio, beating 2000 other pubs!

Ernie and a group of regulars and competition winners were flown out by McCoys to spend 10 days in Rio to soak up the sun and the atmosphere of the World Cup.

The Old Star - Rio! Also as part of the McCoys' competition, Pub Landlord Al Murray hosted a pub quiz for us.

This has all been a great start to 2014, which has seen Ernie and a team of cyclists raise £13000 for the local St Luke's Hospice.

We hope this will be part of a long relationship with the McCoys family and watch this space for news of more events and competitions.

Spring 2013

Lots of new things for 2013 in the Old Star:

The Old Star - LoungeWe've installed a beautiful stone floor throughout - which adds to the cosy atmosphere of the pub, especially on a cold winter night when our log burner glows to keep you warm.

It's not just the decor that's been updated, as you can see from the photo at the head of this page we've got some new beers for you to enjoy including Coors Light and Caffreys Irish Ale. Stoford's Press cider and of course the best Guinness in Cheshire!

The Old Star - LoungeWe've also introduced some new spirits to our ever growing range - we still have our superb value doubles bar, but we've now introduced some premium spirits like Grey Goose Vodka and more single malt whiskies. We have a strong Irish connection here and unlike many pubs you will always find Irish favourites like Power's Gold Label whisky.

For those of you who like to keep in touch while out and about in April 2013 we're having 76 Meg fibre optic broadband installed, which in conjunction with the cloud network, should mean you're always connected at the Old Star.

The Old Star - LoungeOur popular quiz night continues on a Tuesday night, then on Friday it's karaoke with Geordy and Hawkeye's disco on a Saturday with music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and more. For Sporting events we have 7 large TVs inside and another 2 in the beer garden. For those who enjoy their music we have an internet connected video jukebox with access to millions of tracks! In the bar side of the pub we have darts and a great pool table.

We're a popular location for events and for that very special occasion we can provide a marquee that can seat up to 60 guests.

St Chad's Church, DarnhallWe are pleased to be introducing the wonderful Katy Rosé Cider from traditional cider makers - Thatchers; we are the first establishment in Winsford to stock this refreshing, blush coloured drink, made exclusively from Katy apples.

It is a drink to be enjoyed like a wine, and we have special glasses so that you can enjoy this cider at its best. At 5.4% Katy is quite a potent brew too, and we hope cider lovers will agree that this is a special drink.
